Hot on the heels of its recently released SCS120 Pro and SCS120iW Pro flagship 15″/375 mm active subwoofers, ATC has announced availability of SCM105AC Pro and SCM105AiWC Pro, which they describe as precision-engineered centre channel studio monitors for surround and immersive environments. They tell us that they share engineering and technology with the company’s tried-and-tested three-way studio monitors, making the resulting performance available in a compact cabinet format that delivers exceptional clarity and resolution in the centre channel. The two new models are both based on the successful SCM110A Pro, a three-way studio monitor trusted by leading studios worldwide. Both boast dual 9″/234 mm SL bass drivers, a 3″/75 mm ‘Superdome’ midrange, and a 1″/25 mm S-Spec tweeter, all designed and manufactured in-house by ATC. Those dual drivers are driven by a discrete MOSFET A/B power amplifier delivering 200W (bass), 100W (mid), and 50W (HF), while a 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley electronic crossover with all-pass filters offers uncompromising phase coherence and audio clarity.
Clearly, there are two different configurations of high-performance centre channel studio monitoring on offer from ATC, as implied by name — namely, SCM105AC Pro, available as a free-standing/stand-mount solution, and SCM105AiWC Pro, optimised for flush monitoring in-wall courtesy of its full-face square edge front baffle for seamless in-wall integration and improved acoustic performance, plus recessed rear-mounted input panel for reduced depth.
The R1-350 Pro remote amp partnering the SCM105AiWC Pro is a 19″/6U rack-mount version of the amp that drives the SCM105AC Pro — and also ATC’s acclaimed SCM50A Pro, SCM100A Pro, SCM110A Pro, and SCM150A Pro studio monitors. It can be mounted close to the speakers in a control room wall or in a 19″ rack with balanced audio and power delivered via front panel-positioned XLR and IEC connectors. Connections to the loudspeaker are via the rear panel-mounted NL8 and 5-pin XLR connectors for speaker-level audio and power/limit LEDs, respectively; of course, cables are available to accompany in a range of lengths to suit the specific install.
Though the primary application of the SCM105AC Pro or SCM105AiWC Pro is as a centre channel in 5.1, 7.1, and immersive audio applications such as Dolby Atmos, performance is not application/channel specific, however, and both new products can be used as left/right stereo pairs or as surround channels, should the cabinet format be the best solution for a given room or project.
These two new high-performance centre channel studio monitors are ideally matched to those SCM50A Pro, SCM100A Pro, SCM110A Pro, and SCM150A Pro studio monitors, thanks to shared technology, components, and performance. Put another way: their compact cabinet format means that those benefits can now be realised in a wider number of control and mixing rooms, both in recording and audio post applications.
