12-volters may want to take note of this uber OEM car audio system with 43 speakers, now available on the Maextro S800 Chinese ultra luxury vehicle.
Made by Huawei, the system “marks the rise of the Chinese-developed in-car audio system, surpassing those of long-established competitors from all over the world,” according to a Huawei press announcement.
The system uses “2920 W dual amplifiers” and includes 4D exciters (vibration transducers used to create a tactile sensation, say in the car’s seats). The exciters synchronize with music and video to create a “fully immersive experience” specific to each seat, in what Huawei calls an industry first.
There’s also a new Crystal Star-Ring Diffuser, which, by a quick AI search, is something that rises out of the dashboard when someone enters the car. It creates ambient lighting that moves in sync with the music.
Also included is a patented “dual diaphragm subwoofer” and an “innovative Tangential Force Woofer, (see below), an industry-first design that rotates the conventional door woofer by 90 degrees to reduce panel resonance while extending bass response for deeper, purer low frequencies,” said Huawei.
The system also uses independent zone technology where the car’s speakers can be used to cancel the sound of the passenger or driver’s audio, depending on your seat placement. It claims 30dB of isolation between front and rear sound fields and 99% energy separation, so passengers in each row can hear separate audio with less interference.
We asked tech guru Andy Wehmeyer of Audiofrog (formerly of Harman) what he thought of the system. Here’s his response:
The Huawei system sounds interesting. Certainly, all of what they claim is possible. Who knows how well it actually works. Automotive is full of all kinds of claims.” On the Tangential Force Woofer, which rotates the conventional door woofer by 90 degrees, Wehmeyer said, “I don’t think that simply turning the speaker 90 degrees is likely to extend the bass response—there’s literally no technical basis for that claim whatsoever– but it’s probably VERY effective in reducing rattles.”
Huawei said the system is addressing “growing consumer demands for exceptional audio experiences.” But you won’t find the 43-speaker system on an everyday driver at present. Made by JAC, the Maextro brand competes with the likes of the Mercedes Maybach and Rolls-Royce.
